For Big DG Houses where no. of DG sets are installed for generation of 20, 25, 30, 60 MW or above of electricity-it has become very important that all the DG should run consistently at maximum load so that power cuts by electricity boards is compensated.

Design of Cooling System for DG Sets.

1. Basic Requirement.
   1. Dust free atmosphere in the room so that moving parts operate without aberration this enhance the life of these costly spares.

2. Due to dust free atmosphere the capability and efficiency of suction filter for combustion air, increases and life of pistons, cylinders and piston rings is also increased.

3. Lubricants work to longer period with pressurization by dust free air, if cooling is also done.
(a) Alternator can run on full load by forcing cold air into the winding.
(b) Crankcase is cold enough hence no mist formation in the crank case hence no tripping due to high engine oil temperature.
(c) Valves & tappets are also cooled.
